FLOW

A structured approach
to teaching and learning.

Our approach

Educational technologies are changing rapidly, but not always reliably. CommonSage offers a transparent and controlled way for universities to use automation in teaching without losing academic integrity.

  • Professors can review, refine, and approve all generated materials.
  • Students gain access to accurate, multimodal study resources.
  • Universities retain ownership and oversight of the learning process.

Reliable by Design

CommonSage transforms lectures and notes into reliable, well-structured learning resources.
Professors stay in control by reviewing and refining materials before they reach students, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the course.

Sustainable and Scalable

Instead of every student generating similar content separately, CommonSage creates verified materials once and makes them available to everyone
This shared model saves computing power, reduces environmental impact, and keeps learning consistent across the course.

Built for Modern Learning

Students gain access to clear videos, summaries, and quizzes that make complex topics easier to understand and more enjoyable to study.
By combining structured content with familiar media formats, CommonSage makes learning more accessible and engaging.

How it works

1. Upload teaching materials

The professor uploads lecture slides, notes, or recordings to the platform.

2. Content structuring

CommonSage analyzes and organizes the material into coherent topics and relationships.

3. Knowledge Graph Generation

The system connects key ideas into an interactive knowledge graph, forming the foundation for all subsequent learning resources

4. Learning Resource Creation

From the structured data, CommonSage generates summaries, quizzes, videos, and flashcards while maintaining alignment with the verified source material.

5. Interactive Experience

The student accesses personalized and multimodal learning formats through an intuitive dashboard.

Content Types

CommonSage turns course materials into a set of structured learning resources that complement traditional teaching. Each format supports a different way of learning, helping students engage visually, audibly, and interactively.

content types text summary

Written summaries: Concise outlines highlighting key concepts.

content types interactive quiz

Interactive quizzes: Practice and reinforce understanding.

content types video summary

Video summaries: Short, structured explanations of complex topics.

content types flashcard

Flashcards: For memorization.

content types audio lession

Audio lessons: Narrated versions for flexible studying and accessibility.

Human Review

Educators can review and adjust the materials created from their lectures before sharing them with students. This helps maintain accuracy and alignment with course goals.
CommonSage provides an interface to check generated content, make edits, and select which formats to include. It supports instructors in keeping the learning materials relevant and reliable.

Student Analysis

CommonSage turns learning data into clear insights. The analytics view shows how students are progressing, which topics are most engaging, and where challenges appear. It helps everyone see the bigger picture and make learning more effective.

Students can follow their own learning journey in real time. Progress bars and topic summaries show what’s going well and where to focus next. It’s a simple way to stay motivated, see results, and take ownership of learning.

Project Timeline

Research & Development

The goal was to explore how lecture materials could be turned into structured and engaging learning resources.

Prototype Creation

A first prototype showed how lectures could automatically become videos, summaries, flashcards, and quizzes.

Prototype Evaluation

Professors and students tested the prototype and shared feedback that helped refine the concept and learning experience.

Lucio Joins the Project

Lucio joined the project to strengthen development and improve the webexperience.

New Functional Prototype

A new version is being created with a stable backend and improved design to support larger courses and more media types.

Collaboration

The next step is to collaborate with universities and secure funding to bring CommonSage into real teaching environments.

About Us

CommonSage began as part of Jean’s bachelor project, where he developed an early prototype for turning university lectures into multimedia learning materials. During the first testing phase, Lucio was one of the students using the system in class. After seeing how it could benefit both students and professors, he reached out to Jean once the project was completed, and they decided to continue developing it together.

Lucio is studying Computer Science and enjoys running and reading in his free time. You can find more about him at luciocanepa.ch  or reach him at lucio.canepa@bluewin.ch.

Jean holds bachelor’s degrees in Computational Linguistics and Scientific Visualization. He focuses on the intersection of language, design, and education. You can reach him atjean.kesselring@gmail.com.
